Where to view planning application details and documents
View a planning applicationPublic register
We are required to keep a public register of planning applications that includes the following information:
- application forms
- plans and drawings
- planning obligation documents
- details of any direction under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended) and the Town and Country Planning (Development Procedure Order) 2015 (as amended)
- decision notices
- reserved matters or details reserved by condition
- design and access statements
All of our public register has been scanned and mostly no longer exists in paper form. Below we have detailed with information is already available online and how to view it. We have also given details about how to view public register information that is not yet available online.
Pre 1949
We only hold Planning application records from 1949 to present day. Older records are available at The Keep (county archive). We do not hold an index to these. To contact The Keep visit their website www.thekeep.info.
1949 to 1972
Limited details of most applications are available online through our Planning Public Access tool.
Application forms, drawings and decision notices are available online through our Planning Public Access tool. Some original paper documents do exist. They are held at The Keep. To contact The Keep visit their website www.thekeep.info.
1973 to 1988
Limited details of most applications are available online through our Planning Public Access tool.
Decision notices are available for most applications to view online through our Planning Public Access tool.
Application forms, drawings and other public register information have been scanned but are not available online. In many cases information that we do not need to keep by law was removed from these files many years ago and no longer exist in any form.
To view the public register for an application that is not already online please email planning@hastings.gov.uk to request access.
1989 to 2002
Details of all applications are available online through our Planning Public Access tool.
Decision notices are available to view online through our Planning Public Access tool.

Please note that where a drawing or document is marked as superseded that means that it no longer forms part of the planning application. It will have been updated by an amended drawing or document.
Planning history research
We can research and provide you a list of all the applications that affect a property. This is a paid for service. The fee can be found here. To use this service, please email planning@hastings.gov.uk with details of the address of the site including where possible a plan indicating the property you are interested in.
