Statement of Community Involvement
The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is the council’s policy on when and how we will consult on planning changes. The SCI is reviewed and updated every five years. The SCI was last updated on 24 September 2025.
The SCI sets out the range of engagement activities in relation to:
- Developing the new Local Plan and guides our approach to public consultation
- Consultation on planning applications (Development Management)
- Consultation in relation to the Neighbourhood Planning process
- How the council will discharge its Duty to Cooperate with neighbouring authorities on cross boundary strategic planning issues.
We are committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in the planning process. The SCI reflects our commitment to inclusive, transparent, and effective engagement, and takes advantage of digital technologies to reach and hear from more people in the borough. While we know that not everyone wants to or can engage digitally, there are other non-digital alternatives to engage with the planning processes.
