You do not need to apply for planning permission for repairs or maintenance, including minor improvements, such as painting your house or replacing windows, unless your property is located in an Article 4 Direction area. Article 4 Direction areas are located in some parts of the town and in those area permitted development rights have been removed. You can find out more about Article 4 Directions, the restrictions and where they are located here.
If you live in a conservation area you will need to apply for planning permission for certain types of work which would not normally need an application in other areas of the district.
