Listed Buildings and other heritage assets in Hastings and St Leonards
The Listed Building information in this list is taken from the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest for the Borough and is intended for general information only. It is not the Statutory List itself. The Statutory list can be viewed on the Historic England website.
There are three grades of listed buildings: Grade I, Grade II*, and Grade II where Grade I is the most important. The list below states the appropriate listed building grade for each property.
Article 4 Directions
The list below also includes properties that are affected by the 1993 Article 4 directions and 1952 painting restrictions. An Article 4 direction means that a planning application is required for certain works for which an application would not normally be necessary. This may vary from one property to another. For more information please view our Article 4 Direction page. Please note that a property may be Listed and affected by one or more Article 4 directions and therefore it is important that you check the list below thoroughly.
In addition to the Article 4 Directions affecting certain dwelling houses as detailed below, an Article 4 Direction came into force in July 2012 affecting all properties across the whole town in relation to Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO). The properties affected by the HMO Article 4 Direction are not detailed below.
Other Features
Scheduled Monuments, Protected Wrecks and Historic Parks and Gardens have also been added to the list below. More information can be found about these on the Historic England website. Buildings included in the Local List of Heritage Assets have also been added to the list below.
