Do I need a Licence?
I would like to do beautician work, do I need a Licence?
In Hastings & St Leonards you only need a Licence if you are carrying out skin piercing activities.
What are skin piercing activities?
These can be, but are not limited to, body piercing, tattooing, electrolysis, semi-permanent make-up or acupuncture.
What about a Special Treatment Licence, do I need one of these?
A Special Treatment Licence is issued by mostly London Borough and some other authorities to control the activities of massaging, tanning or sauna's. Hastings Borough Council does not require businesses in our area to have this Licence.
What else should I consider?
You should find out from our Planning team if your premises has the correct planning permission for the activity you are planning to carry out. This is important whether you are doing a business from a commercial or a domestic premises.
Regardless of the activity you will need to put together a health and safety risk assessment. For more advice on Health & Safety please visit the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
