The lawful basis for processing personal data
Legal obligation: the processing is necessary for us to comply with the law.
Public task: the processing is necessary for us to perform a task in the public interest or for our official functions, and the task or function has a clear basis in law.

The lawful basis for processing special category personal data
Substantial public interest: the processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest, on the basis of Union or Member State law which shall be proportionate to the aim pursued, respect the essence of the right to data protection and provide for suitable and specific measures to safeguard the fundamental rights of the data subject.

Who we share your data with
Information may be passed to the Department for Work and Pensions, the Pension Service and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs where the law allows it.
We may check information provided by you, or information about you provided by a third party, with other information we hold. We may also get information from certain third parties, or give information to them to check the accuracy of information, to prevent or detect crime, or to protect public funds in other ways, where the law allows it. These third parties include government departments, local authorities and credit reference agencies.
We will not disclose information about you to anyone outside the council or use information about you for other reasons unless the law allows us to. If you fall behind with your rent or Council Tax payments our Housing or Council Tax staff may need to read your application so that they can help you.
