I'm buying/selling a property but don't think the extensions have planning permission, what do I do?
This is not a straightforward answer. Some alterations/extensions may be permitted development and so there will be no planning record.
If an extension was constructed and completed more than four years ago and it can be proved that this time has elapsed then the development would be immune from enforcement action.
If neither of the above apply then planning permission is required. What you can do
You can choose one of our self-certification forms which will allow you to work out for yourself whether permission would be required. We can check the form and provide an informal opinion whether the extension is permitted development or whether planning permission is required.
Please note a fee will be required this service. Fees can be found here. -
