Hastings Local Plan – We need your views
Published 28/01/2021
Consultation on the first draft of the new Local Plan for Hastings begins this week. This is an opportunity for people to get involved and help shape development in Hastings over the next 18 years.
The new plan, when it is completed, will guide the future development of land and buildings in our town through to 2039. It aims to support a thriving future for Hastings, with improved prospects for all.
Themes in the plan include an emphasis on quality housing within well designed neighbourhoods, the provision of sustainable transport links and infrastructure that assists with the growth of businesses to help boost the local economy and offer new skills and job opportunities for residents.
The Local Plan also has an important role in helping to protect the environment and tackling climate change, helping the town to work towards carbon neutrality by 2030.
To make sure this plan is robust it is important that those with an interest in Hastings submit their views and ideas over the next 8 weeks. These responses will help to shape the next version of the Local Plan which will be submitted to the Secretary of State for examination.
For more information on the Local Plan, including how to get involved please go to Hastings Borough Council's website: www.hastings.gov.uk/localplan.
Cllr Kim Forward, leader of Hastings Borough Council, explained,
"The Local Plan consultation offers an exciting opportunity for everyone with an interest in Hastings to share their thoughts on the future development of this beautiful town.
"This is your town, your future and it is important that we hear your views so that we have a plan that offers benefits for everyone in our community and helps create a place where people love to live, work and visit.
"We have created a video that you can watch on our website: www.hastings.gov.uk/localplan which will help you understand more about the plan and why it's important that you are involved.
"If you are interested but cannot access the internet, we have set up a dedicated voicemail on 01424 451102 so please contact us if you need help viewing or commenting on the Local Plan.
"We would love to see as many people as possible sharing their views before the consultation closes on Wednesday 24 March 2021."
