Hastings Youth Council awards our local youth and voluntary organisations

On Sunday 17 November, Hastings Youth Council celebrated the diversity and creativity of the Hastings youth scene with an awards ceremony at East Sussex College Hastings, for the 2019 Hastings Youth Awards. Among the 16 award winners were youth organisations, as well as outstanding individuals:

Josh Aldridge, 16, from the Eggtooth project has become part of their performing arts section and has inspired other people to do the same.

Jasmine Rumsey is a volunteer at Safe Space. Safe Space is open from 10pm till 4am on Saturday nights. They are a refuge service for any vulnerable people in need on a Saturday evening. They also help to relieve the A&E department and ambulance call-outs during this time. They have trained welfare volunteers and first-aiders to deal with any medical treatments and can make well-being assessments.

Jordan Beaney, chair of Hastings Youth Council said,

"The Hastings Youth Council is dedicated to improving the Hastings area for the young people in it. The Hastings Youth Awards are, in a sense, a reflection of that by acknowledging the accomplishments of organisations, groups and individuals who make a positive impact in the community.

"We help broadcast their aims and contributions to others and help highlight their importance to those who may have never heard of them. It also allows us, in the youth council the opportunity to be informed by those awarded about how we can help them in the future, such as through the use of grants"
