Home adaptations programme offers independence to seniors
Last night Hastings Borough Council's cabinet agreed unanimously to delegate authority so officers can respond promptly to the freedoms provided by the provision of Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) funding through the Better Care Fund.
This allows the development and adoption of new types of financial assistance for housing renewal.Disabled facilities grants are given to vulnerable people so they can remain in their own homes and remain independent. The Council's in-house Occupational Therapists are working alongside housing specialists to make sure the right adaptations are made. They also work closely with hospital staff to ensure early referrals to the housing team.
Andy Batsford, lead councillor for housing said,
"I have seen first-hand the positive impact the DFG funding can have for our elderly and vulnerable residents.
"The installing of new wet rooms, ramps and adaptations not only make day to day life easier but ensure that people can stay in their homes and communities.
"I would encourage anyone who needs this support to contact adult social services and ask about the adaptations programme.Health and social care connect 0345 60 80 191 or email HSCC@eastsussex.gov.uk.
