Letting your home
If you're considering letting your home for the first time, you may find it useful to read the Department for Communities and Local Government's guidance on 'Renting out your property'.
This guidance explains the relevant laws, gives information on the length of tenancies, serving notice, your responsibilities as a landlord and your tenants' responsibilities.
You should also be aware that the Government's Right to Rent Scheme, which requires all landlords to ensure that they only let property to people with a 'right to rent', rolled out nationally on 1st February 2016. The new scheme means that landlords need to carry out quick and simple checks on all new adult tenants to make sure they have the right to rent property in the country. Further information on how to check a person's right to rent is available at: https://www.gov.uk/check-tenant-right-to-rent-documents
