Here are some stats about Disabled Facilities Grants in Hastings.

April to June 2026

Approvals

• 22 approvals for a total of 29 adaptations;
• 16 of these were for a single adaptations;
• One approval was for three adaptations - an external platform lift, wash dry toilet and garden access;
• Ten approvals were for housing association properties;
• Three completed DFGs were for children.

Completed

• 34 completed DFGs totalling £376,597.08;
• 30 completed DFGs for a single adaptation - 20 for level access showers;
• 40 adaptations were completed in 34 properties;
• 24 in housing association properties, eight in owner occupied homes and two private landlords.

Financial year 2025-2026

Approvals

• 127 DFGs approved for a total of 194 adaptations with a total cost of £1,493,368.15;
• 90 (71%) of the adaptations were for a single adaptation - 54 of these were level access showers, 20 were for stairlifts;
• The average age of a DFG applicant was 58 years old;
• Seven DFGs were for children;
• Only one had a financial contribution required.

Completions

• 129 DFGs were completed - a total spend of £1,961,611.54;
• The average cost of a DFG was £15,206.29;
• 78 of the completed DFGs were for a single adaptation - 43 of these were for a level access shower;
• Two of the DFGs were for major adaptations - one was the creation of a downstairs bedroom and level access shower in the lounge and creation of a lounge in the dining room. The other was for a level access shower in a downstairs bedroom;
• 221 adaptations were completed in 129 different properties;
• 84 properties were housing association owned; 39 were owner occupiers; four were owned by private landlords and two were Hastings Borough Council owned properties;
• 17 of the completed DFGs used our discretionary policy;
• The average time it took from an application being processed to being approved was ten days (eight working days);
• The average time taken from approval to completion was 134 days (93 working days).

Financial year 2024-2025

Approvals

• 150 DFGs approved for a total of 240 adaptations;
• 16 were for children;
• 99 properties were housing association Properties, 37 were owner occupiers, 12 were owned by private landlords and two were Hastings Borough Council temporary accommodation properties;
• 97 of the approvals were for a single adaptation; 48 of these single adaptations were for level access showers, 29 were stair lifts.

Completions

• 146 DFGs were completed;
• 99 were for housing association properties, 34 were owner occupiers and 13 were owned by a private landlord;
• 87 completed DFGs were for a single adaptation, 44 of these were for level access showers and 26 were for stair lifts.
