The site is also known for its spectacular ancient woodland ground flora which includes early purple orchids, wood spurge, goldilocks buttercup and the scarce coralroot bittercress. There are numerous paths through the woodland providing easy access for walkers.
Recently cut coppice and the woodland edge around the meadow is rich in invertebrates and the edge of the woodland is an excellent place to see bats.
Churchwood is owned and managed by Hastings Borough Council.
Churchwood and Robsack Local Nature Reserve was extended in January 2018 to include the adjacent area of Robsack Meadow.
