What can't I recycle?
Green bin users- recycling must be placed in your bin loose. Please do not use bin liners or bags for your recycling (unless you have been told to use pink sacks).
Pink sacks users - please do not leave sacks tied or hung on railings. Present them on the pavement, only on your collection day at 7am.
What you can't put in your green bin or pink sack:
Paper / card
- Wrapping paper with glitter
- Cards with glitter
- Foil/paper (mixed) wrapping paper
- Wet paper/cardboard
- Photographs
Plastics
- Blister packs (moulded plastic and foil packaging used for tablets/capsules)
- Bubble wrap
- Polystyrene
- Black plastic bags
- Foil-lined plastic pouches and bags eg. crisp packets, baby and pet food pouches
- Hard plastics (eg. toys, plant pots, paint tins, plastic strapping, crates, containers)
Glass
- Wine / drinking glasses
- Glass oven dishes
- Light bulbs
- Broken glass/sheets of glass
- Window panes
- Pyrex glassware
- Mirrors
Other
- Textiles (clothing, shoes, bedding)
- Food waste
- Nappies
- Wood
- Rubber
- Ceramics
- Crockery
- Sand
- Negatives
- Tyres
- Garden waste
- Dog waste/cat litter
- Building materials.
- Paint tins or cans, even if empty
Batteries and small electrical items should not be placed in your bin. Please place small electrical items in a small carrier bag on top of either your green or black bin on collection day.
For items like shoes, clothes and kitchenware that can't be put in your green bin or pink sack, the council has partnered with Anglo Doorstep Collections, so you can easily recycle these items from home.
