We Are Undefeatable
Active Hastings are proud to join the We Are Undefeatable movement, by encouraging local people with long-term health conditions to keep active. The national movement involving 15 of the UK's leading health and social care charities, supports people with a range of long-term health conditions to be active in a way that works for them.
If you have a long term health condition visit our Active Hastings activity listings and see what classes are available throughout Hastings.
Alan, an Active Hastings We Are Undefeatable champion, kick starts the campaign by sharing his story:
"After recovering from a life threating illness, that no one expected me to survive, and being demobilised in a hospital bed, it was very easy to start feeling sorry for myself. I was in bed one day and a Hospital Consultant heard me moaning, and I remember him saying 'this could be as good as it gets'. That motivated me to get moving and to take control of my health."
"I had started walking, but climbing hills still made me very out of breath and I wasn't happy with my lung capacity. I had heard about 20/20 Health and because of my long-term respiratory condition I ask my GP to refer me."
"Going to the gym and being part of the 20/20 Health group makes me prioritise exercise, it motivates me to attend and pushes me in the right direction. It's also given me the confidence to exercise, knowing I'm being monitored and encouraged."
"Being around others, who have a shared experience of a long-term health condition means we can support and inspire each other. Being part of the group, motivates me to attend, as I don't want to let anyone down, and I don't want to let myself down. After a session I feel great, I feel that I've really achieved something. There's nothing better than getting the blood pumping."
We Are Undefeatable believes that every achievement, no matter how small it might seem to someone else, is worth celebrating. -
