Hastings has received almost £15m through funding from the UK Government’ to support regeneration in the area. In April 2023, under the previous Conservative government, Hastings was selected by the former Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) now known as the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), as one of 20 areas to establish a partnership funded by the government, as part of a programme to deliver a tailored approach to place-based working.

Work on the former Levelling Up Partnership (now known as Projects and Partnerships Funded by the UK Government), between Hastings Borough Council and the Government has been ongoing since September 2023 with the previously council arranging introductions to more than 60 stakeholders in Hastings, including the business and cultural sectors, voluntary and not for profit organisations, and other public sector businesses in the local area. The aim being to understand the challenges faced by key partners and identify practical solutions to bring about change.

A desktop review was conducted about the educational outcomes, levels of deprivation and health inequalities and have undertaken a deep dive into the high levels of demand for temporary accommodation in the town.

£10.11m of the funding has been allocated to help scale up the housing accommodation programme and an additional £3.7m earmarked for the Bexhill Road affordable housing development which was granted planning approval in November 2023. The rest of the funding will be used to support other projects in the town, which are outlined in the page below.

There is also an additional £5.181m allocated to East Sussex County Council to support Hastings-based projects.
