Green Dog Walking Scheme
Hastings Borough Council is passionate about its woodlands, parks and gardens and constantly strive to enhance the green spaces to ensure that every local person and visitor has an enjoyable experience when visiting our award winning sites.
We recognise that there is still a problem with dog foul which is spoiling our sites and in response to this, we launched the "Green Dog Walking Scheme" in conjunction with a major event in Alexandra Park and at the Country Park in August 2012. Dog walkers were able to obtain the information leaflet, made their pledge and received their arm band from the Rangers who were out in full force and reassured the community of their commitment.
The "Green Dog Walkers Scheme" was initially a pilot scheme which was very successful with over 450 dog walkers signing up to the pledge. In recognition of joining the scheme, a badge was given. A small plastic sleeve to slip over the dog lead or collar bearing the Green Dog logo was also provided.
The scheme is simple and non confrontational. By volunteering to wear the waterproof green dog walkers arm band, dog walkers are recognised as having taken the pledge to:
- Always clean up after their dog
- To carry extra dog bags
- To gladly give another dog walker a bag.
