Visually impaired bowlers open day
Published 29/04/2026

People with visual impairments are invited to the Visually Impaired Bowlers Open Day on Wednesday 13 May, from 2 to 4pm. The friendly and fully accessible event will take place at White Rock Gardens (Green 3), Cambridge Road, Hastings, TN34 1EU, and is specially designed to welcome anyone with a visual impairment who would like to try a new sport in a relaxed, supportive setting.
No previous experience is needed. The welcoming bowls team will be on hand throughout the afternoon to offer guidance, answer questions, and support you to take part at your own pace. All equipment will be provided.
Cath Donovan, Active Hastings Physical Activity and Health Strategic Lead, said: “This open day is all about helping people feel comfortable and confident trying something new. You don’t need any experience at all, just come along, enjoy yourself, and see what bowls is all about. Whether you are completely new to bowls, feeling a little curious, or simply fancy popping along for a chat and a cup of tea, you will be made to feel very welcome.”
Chris Price, Vice Captain of Hastings VI Bowls Club, said: “Bowls is a fantastic sport for people with visual impairments because it’s inclusive, adaptable, and open to everyone, whatever their experience or ability. Our open day is a great opportunity to give it a try in a relaxed and supportive environment. We’ll be there every step of the way to guide you, so all you need to bring is yourself and a willingness to have a go.”
Elsie Wilcox, Captain of Hastings VI Bowls Club, added: “One of the best things about bowls is how fun and social it is. It’s a wonderful way to meet new people, build confidence, and feel part of a friendly community. Whether you come along on your own or with a friend, you’ll be made to feel very welcome from the moment you arrive.”
Booking is recommended, to reserve your place, or call the Active Hastings Team on 01424 451051.
