Published 17/10/2021
Alistair Chisholm, town crier of Dorchester, Dorset, has won the 68th National Town Criers' Championship in Hastings, for a record-breaking twelfth time.
The National Town Criers Championship is held annually in Hastings as part of Hastings Week, held to mark the Saxon defeat by the Normans at the Battle of Hastings, which took place on 14th October 1066. It took place on Saturday (16th October) in the new venue of Butlers' Gap, in Hastings Old Town. This year's competition was the first for two years, the 2020 contest being cancelled because of COVID-19.
Second in the championship was Andrew Fleming, of Swanage, Dorset, and joint third place went to Steven Holt, of Morley, West Yorkshire, and Eliza Anderson-Watson, of Barnoldswick, Lancashire. Best dressed crier was also Andrew Fleming, and best dressed attendant was Anja Fleming, Andrew's wife.
