Council preparing for Storm Eunice
Published 17/02/2022
In preparation for Storm Eunice, which is due to hit on Friday 18 February, there will be some impact on Hastings Borough Council services.
Its main seafront office Muriel Matters House will be closed - there will be no face-to-face service. The Community Contact Centre will be taking calls but the lines are likely to be busy and there might be delays. If you can use our online services these will be unaffected.
Hastings Museum and Art Gallery will be closed - anyone who had booked tickets will be contacted.
The four seafront car parks - Rock a Nore, Pelham Place, Marina and Carlisle Parade - will be closed for safety reasons. This will be reviewed at 4pm tomorrow (Friday 18 February).
We are asking people to avoid the seafront if possible.
Waste and recycling collections are expected to be disrupted, but residents are asked to put out their bins as usual. Please ensure all items are safely inside bins and the lids are secured. If your bin is missed please check our website for an update.
Officers and contractors are on stand-by to deal with the effects of the storm where necessary.
Updates will be posted on our social media channels and website.Update: 12.30pm Friday 18 February
Storm Eunice has disrupted waste and recycling collections for today, Friday 18 February. All crews were deployed this morning as normal but due to increasing wind speeds it has been decided to recall them for safety reasons. Please be assured the decision to suspend the service for the remainder of the day is not taken lightly but our priority has to be the safety of our staff.
Many bins will have been emptied already today however, if your road has not been collected please take your bin back in as soon as possible so that it is less likely to blow over and then put it back out by 7am on Monday 21 February and we will endeavour to empty it as soon as possible.
Some disruption is likely to continue through next week as we catch up on outstanding work. Please put your bin out as normal and we will make every effort to empty it that day. If it is not emptied however, please leave the bin out and we will empty it as soon as we can.
It is our intention that all outstanding collections will be completed by Saturday 26 February. If your bin has not been emptied by then please contact us through My Hastings.
All services are due to return to normal by Monday 28 February.
