Overview and Scrutiny Committee agree commitments for the year
Published 10/08/2022
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee has agreed their work plan for the rest of the council term.
This year's work plan covers four key themes, Finance, Equalities, Living Environment, and Follow Up 2021. These themes incorporate monitoring the deficit the council faces, any financial over or underspends, how projects are prioritised, the My Hastings online service, the Equalities Charter, waste, recycling and street cleansing services, bathing water, and Sea Change's achievements and future plans in the town. This work will be carried out before the end of the council term in March 2023.
The committee is made up of 11 councillors from the Labour, Green and Conservative groups and monitors performance against the targets set out in the council's corporate plan. It also identifies potential areas for improvement, explores options to develop council services and undertakes reviews which look at issues of local importance.
Cllr Andy Patmore and Cllr Amanda Jobson, Chair and Vice Chair of the Committee, said:
"The Overview and Scrutiny Committee plays an important role in ensuring that the council delivers what is set out in the corporate plan. The committee's commitments for this council term will provide an opportunity for councillors to scrutinise some of the borough's biggest concerns, including the large deficit the council faces, the current housing crisis, safety improvements, bathing water quality, and waste, recycling and street cleansing services."

Hastings Borough Council is run by Labour and Green councillors working together following a Cooperation Agreement.
