Twin Town's Noteworthy Visit
Past Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Nigel Sinden, deputising for the current Mayor and Deputy Mayor, received a special euro at a small event in Hastings Town Hall.
Dr Christopher Wartenberg, his wife and mother paid a visit to the Mayor's Parlour in Hastings Town Hall after a private visit to England. Dr Wartenberg works for the council of one of Hastings twin towns, Schwerte, in Germany, as the coordinator of voluntary activities, and is also chair of the local heritage and history association in Schwerte.
At the meeting, also attended by Reg Wood, the chair of the local Hastings Schwerte twinning group, Dr Wartenberg presented Cllr Sinden with a special commemorative zero value euro note featuring a church in Schwerte they are raising funds for. The serial number on the special euro is 001066!
Cllr Sinden said: "It was great to be able to welcome Dr Wartenberg and his family to our town hall, and I was pleased to be able to take them to visit our castle, using our fantastic 130-year-old West Hill Lift. But for me the highlight of the visit has to be receiving the special souvenir zero value Schwerte euro…numbered 1066! That was so thoughtful, and now has pride of place on the desk in the mayor's office in our town hall."
