Hastings West Hill Lift will open at 0445 on Monday 1 May to allow Morris dancers and spectators to get to Ladies Parlour, on the top of the West Hill, for the annual 'dancing at dawn' celebration which takes place every May Day.

Cllr Andy Batsford, lead councillor for culture, explained: "We are expecting more people than usual to watch the traditional May Day 'dancing at dawn' on Ladies Parlour this year because 1 May falls on the Bank Holiday Monday. We are therefore opening the West Hill Lift very early to allow Morris dancers and local residents to use the lift, it's a lot easier than climbing up the hill, especially that time in the morning!"
