Celebrate local dinosaur heritage in Hollington
Published 17/08/2023
On Thursday 31 August, Hastings Museum and Art Gallery is teaming up with local charities Surviving the Streets and Fresh Visions to celebrate local dinosaur heritage at a special family-friendly event in Hollington.
The event, which is part of the museum’s Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) programme, will take place from 11am to 4pm at Woody Wood Garden, Parsons Close, Hollington, TN38 9QT. There will be the chance to take part in fossil themed art and craft activities and enjoy free refreshments.
Cllr Andy Batsford, lead for Culture at Hastings Borough Council, said:
"It is great to see the museum team heading back to Hollington for another dinosaur themed event. Last year, thanks to funding from the Royal Society, the museum held several Dinosaur on Your Doorstep community events in Hollington. These were enjoyed by many local families and led to the creation of a mosaic celebrating Hollington’s very own dinosaur Iguanodon hollingtoniensis, named after the area by Richard Lydekker in 1889. We hope to see lots of great creations this year!
"If you are busy on the 31 August, but would like to explore local dinosaur history, please come along to the museum, which holds a number of fossilised dinosaur bones, plant fossils and other animals from coastal exposures and quarries that once operated in and around the town."
