At Full Council on Wednesday 23 September, Hastings Borough Councillors voted to agree a motion by Cllr Danuta Kean supporting the work of the RNLI and Pett Level Independent Rescue Lifeboat rescuing those in the sea.
The motion also reiterated Hastings’ status as a town of refuge for all those who are rescued from drowning however they are in the water, in support of the work of the RNLI and Pett Level Independent Rescue Lifeboat in light of increasing attacks on lifeboat crews and their families over the rescue of drowning people attempting to cross the channel through people smugglers.
Cllr Glenn Haffenden, leader of Hastings Borough Council, said: "We are pleased to support the RNLI and Pett Level Independent Rescue Lifeboat who do a fantastic job of rescuing anyone who gets into danger in the sea. Hastings is proud to be a Community of Sanctuary and welcoming to anyone who arrives here, however they arrive."
