Solar panel scheme offers Hastings residents savings on energy bills
Published 21/09/2020
Hastings Borough Council is supporting a scheme to help residents cut their carbon emissions and save money on their energy bills by installing high quality solar panels.
Hastings homeowners can register for Solar Together Sussex which uses a group buying approach to secure significant savings on solar panel installations by accredited contractors. The scheme is being run in conjunction with councils across East Sussex and West Sussex and iChoosr, who are experts in group buying.
If you are interested, you can register your interest in the scheme at https://www.solartogether.co.uk/hastings/home. Registration is free and there is no obligation to go ahead with an installation.
Once registration closes, accredited installers will bid for the work. This approach helps to drive prices down and ensure that residents get a high-quality system and save money.
If your house is suitable for solar panels, you will receive a personal recommendation outlining the cost and return on investment.
Cllr Maya Evans, lead councillor for Natural Environment and Leisure, said,"At Hastings Borough Council we are dedicated to tackling climate change and aim to make Hastings carbon neutral by 2030, so we are excited to be supporting a scheme which can help us achieve this goal.
"By installing solar panels and therefore generating zero carbon electricity at home, the average household could reduce their annual carbon footprint by approximately one tonne each year.
"We hope that this offer from Solar Together Sussex will encourage more residents to consider installing solar panels on their homes, hopefully with a significant saving via the scheme too.
"This scheme is also part of a wider strategy to reduce the carbon emission of homes across the borough, as this is what's really needed. Through this project we will also develop best practice, augment working relationships with partners, and furthermore understand how we can most effectively make homes more energy efficient on a large scale.
"You have until the 6 October to sign up for the scheme.
"There are also many other schemes supported by the council that residents can take a look at which make their homes more energy efficient and help us towards our goal to be carbon neutral. You can find more details on our website."
Go to https://www.solartogether.co.uk/hastings/home for more information and details about how to register. When you register, you will need to provide some basic information about your roof, including its size and orientation, to find out whether your house is suitable for solar panels.
