Have you had your say on Hastings’ future?
Published 24/03/2026

Residents, businesses and community groups are being urged to take part in an important consultation on the draft Local Plan for Hastings - a document that will shape how the town grows and develops up to 2041.
The Local Plan is one of the most important documents Hastings Borough Council produces. It sets out what can be built, where it can be built, and how development should benefit local people. It will guide where new homes, jobs, transport, and community facilities are delivered, while seeking to balance protecting the town’s heritage, parks, and open spaces.
To make sure the Plan reflects local needs and priorities, the council is seeking comments on the consultation.
Cllr Mark Etherington, lead for strategic planning and climate adaptation, said:
“Without an up-to-date plan, Hastings is at risk of unplanned development, reducing local control over what is built and whether important services like schools and health centres are provided. It is important that this growth is planned carefully, so Hastings continues to be a great place to live, work and visit.
“By looking at the proposed sites and policies and sharing your views, you can help shape the future of our town and ensure the Plan reflects the views of the whole town. Have your say before 11.59pm on Tuesday 7 April 2026 at www.hastings.gov.uk/localplan.
“Please share the consultation with family, friends and neighbours to ensure as many voices as possible are heard.”
A virtual exhibition is available on the council’s website to help people get involved, offering clear explanations of the different areas of the Plan, alongside an interactive map showing where policies and proposed site allocations are across the borough.
A video is also available to watch featuring Councillors Mark Etherington, Glenn Haffenden and Julia Hilton, who explain more about the draft Local Plan and why it is so important.
