Forget Tour de France, tour the seafront: council's cycle hire service reopens
Published 17/08/2020
Hastings Borough Council's Seaside Cycle Hire Hut reopens after securing a Foreshore Trust grant.
The cycle hut located along Hastings promenade will provide access to cycles between 10am and 3pm on weekends, these must be pre-booked in advance by 2pm on the Friday before. It is advisable to book early to ensure your request is fulfilled, as there will be a reduced number of bikes available due to the new procedures in place.
These include ensuring all bikes and helmets are disinfected and left for at least 78 hours between uses. The implementation of these new procedures has helped to secure 'We're Good to Go' certification from Visit Britain, establishing the hut as a COVID secure attraction.
There are bikes available for the whole family so everyone can enjoy a day out together, including adult standard, adult electric, junior and children's bikes.
Cllr Margi O'Callaghan Chair of the Charity Committee said,
"The Foreshore Trust grant has provided the essential financial backing this venture required, and we are delighted that the bid has been successful. The bike hut offers residents and visitors with a fun way of seeing our borough while also staying active, which is exactly what is needed after many months in lockdown."
Cllr Maya Evans, portfolio holder for Natural Environment and Leisure added,
"We really encourage cycling locally as an eco-friendly and healthy way of getting around town, so we're excited to have the cycle hire hut back open again, providing easy access to bikes for those who do not have their own.
