Her Majesty The Queen - Born 21 April 1926 and died 8 September 2022.
It is with great sadness that the Mayor of Hastings sends condolences on behalf of the people of Hastings to Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
State Funeral
The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen will be happening on Monday 19 September, which has been declared a Bank Holiday by the new King.
There will be a big screen in Alexandra Park showing the funeral. For more information see our press release on this.

National Moment of Reflection
At 8pm on Sunday 18 September there will be a National Minute of Silence for Reflection. This will be held outside Hastings Town Hall, in Queens Road. The Mayor of Hastings, Cllr James Bacon, and Deputy Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Margi O'Callaghan, will be attending.
The Mayor will read a short piece before the silence, followed by the national anthem. Residents can attend the short ceremony or mark it at home by standing on their doorstep at 8pm or simply pausing what they are doing.
Flags
The flags at Muriel Matters House and the town hall will be flown at half mast until 8am on Tuesday 20 September, the day after the funeral.
Flowers
If you would like to leave flowers in memory of The Queen, please leave these at the war memorial in Alexandra Park. Please remove all plastic before they are left. Please do not leave flowers elsewhere in the borough, any left in different locations will be carefully removed and taken to the war memorial in Alexandra Park.
Book of condolence
There will be a book of condolence in the reception at Muriel Matters House, Breeds Place, for any residents who wish to leave a message. This will be available during usual council opening hours - 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am to 4.30pm on Friday. The book will also be at the Seafood and Wine Festival on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September for anyone attending to sign. The book will then be in Alexandra Park for the screening of the funeral on Monday 19 September. It will then return to Muriel Matters House on Tuesday 20 September where it will be available from 9am to 5pm before it is closed.

Local proclamationThe Mayor of Hastings, Cllr James Bacon, read the local Proclamation of the new King at 3pm on Sunday 11 September in Queens Square.
The Vice Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, Sara Stonor DL, Deputy Mayor of Hastings, the MP, local dignitaries, and all Hastings borough councillors were invited.
