Community groups, sports clubs, charities and community interest companies (CICs) are encouraged to apply for funding to improve leisure, sport and physical activity facilities across Hastings.

Hastings Borough Council has £700,000 to invest in grants over the next two years to help upgrade and improve spaces where people can be active, connect and thrive.

The fund offers three levels of grant support:

Small Grants (£2,000 – £10,000) for smaller improvement projects

Medium Grants (£10,000 – £75,000) for more substantial upgrades to facilities

Major Grants (£75,000 – £150,000) for larger, transformative projects

The first round of funding is open in May 2026.

The programme will run multiple funding rounds over two years, giving organisations time to develop strong proposals and apply when they are ready.

The funding can be used for capital improvements to buildings and spaces, including repairs and refurbishments to buildings; improvements to sports or activity areas; accessibility improvements; fixed or permanent equipment. Applications for essential specialist equipment might also be considered where it is essential to deliver or expand a community leisure activity.

Cllr Glenn Haffenden, leader of the council and lead councillor for sport and leisure, said: “I’m really pleased that we were able to set aside this funding for our sports and leisure groups. I know from speaking to many of them that funding has been very tight and it is increasingly difficult to fund improvements that are needed to keep these groups running.

“We know there are huge benefits to people being able to be active, not only physically, but also the mental health benefits and the opportunities to meet new people and make community links, and I'm passionate about making sure the whole borough has access to these opportunities. By running the programme over multiple rounds, we can support both projects that are ready now and those that need a bit more time to develop.”

Find out more information and apply online. Applications close at 11.59pm on Sunday 12 July.
