Active Hastings makes the final of the National Community Fitness Awards
Published 13/07/2020
Active Hastings have made it to the final of several categories at the National Community Fitness Awards.
Active Hastings is a partnership project between Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council Public Health and aims to increase the physical activity levels of Hastings residents.
The whole Active Hastings team is a finalist for Community Team for the South and Wales area.
Community Sport and Physical Activity Workers Heidi Tambeh and Georges Gouet are also both finalists in individual categories: Heidi for 'Regional Instructor' and Georges for 'Inclusive Award'.
Cllr Maya Evans, cabinet lead for natural environment and leisure said,"We are really proud of our Active Hastings team for making the final of the National Community Fitness awards.
The team work incredibly hard to run fun sport and fitness activities across Hastings, for all ages and abilities. They are especially effective in reaching out to the least active in our community, and getting them involved in physical activities.
Over the past few months they've also adapted extremely well and have helped keep the residents of Hastings fit and active from home when the country was in lockdown. Good physical health has a direct correlation to a healthy immune system, and the body's ability to fight illnesses. Exercise also promotes good mental health and wellbeing. It's so brilliant that Active Hastings has continued to provide a key service during lockdown, it has made a huge difference to the quality of life for our residents. They're a great team who completely deserve this national recognition.
Public vote makes up 25% of the final mark for the awards, so we'd love it if Hastings residents could show support for our team and vote online.
Active Hastings for Community Team in South and Wales area.
Heidi for Regional Instructor.
Georges for the Inclusive Award.
The votes close on the 8 August, so make sure to get in and vote before the closing date!"
