White Rock Theatre
Published 22/06/2023
Councillors are due to discuss the future of the White Rock Theatre in Hastings at their Cabinet meeting on Monday 3 July.
The current lease with Trafalgar Theatres to run the White Rock Theatre expires at the end of January 2024. The contract initially ran for ten years and has already been extended by five years and no further extensions are allowed.
Council officers have looked at alternative arrangements for the theatre. Their recommendation is that the theatre is marketed for lease, so the building continues to be used from 1 February 2024.
Cllr Andy Batsford, lead councillor for culture, said: "We believe that the White Rock is central to the rich cultural mix here in Hastings and can continue to offer a wide range of cultural activities for residents and visitors in the future. We are confident that there will be a strong interest in delivering an exciting programme from our iconic building. I look forward to seeing the bids that come forward and seeing how the building can deliver the cultural mix we have come to love in a new creative and sustainable way."
You can watch the meeting online from 6pm on Monday 3 July. You can read the full papers online.
