Tell us your views on anti-social behaviour protection order
Published 20/01/2022
If you live, work or regularly visit Hastings, you can have your say on the council's anti-social behaviour public space protection order (PSPO).
The PSPO has to be reviewed every three years. The council is proposing to renew it under the same terms, and anyone who wants to have their say can do so.
The order covers the whole borough and gives the police and council powers to act if people are breaching it and behaving in an anti-social way within the area each section covers.
It bans drinking alcohol other than in licensed premises, bans anti-social behaviour and aggressive begging within a particular zone of the town, and means that authorised people (the police or council wardens) can ask that alcohol is handed over in a particular zone of the town. Fines can be issued to anyone failing to comply with the PSPO. The order has been used extensively to deal with anti-social behaviour over the last three years.
Cllr Judy Rogers, lead councillor for community safety, said: "The Public Space Protection Order plays an important role in keeping our town safe by giving the police the power to fine anyone behaving in an anti-social way in the areas it covers. I'd encourage anyone who lives or works in the town, or who is a regular visitor, to have their say on how the PSPO is renewed. Please have a look at the PSPO on our website and send your comments if you have any."
The consultation will run until Wednesday 2 March. Please email communitysafety@hastings.gov.uk with any feedback. Please ensure you include your name and address within your feedback.
