Published 29/11/2022
With thanks to funding from Hastings Primary Care Network, Active Hastings have appointed Sarah Ruusuvuori as their new Youth Link Worker. Working with youth organisations, schools, sports clubs and strategic partners, the aim of this exciting new role is to increase the opportunities for young people in Hastings to be more active.
Sarah will kick start 2023 with a range of new sessions, taking place throughout Hastings, including UV sports, Multi-Ball Sports Wall and Active Youth Sessions.
Together with Defiant Sports, Active Hastings are launching a free Active Youth Taster Session (for children aged 6 to 16) on Tuesday 17 January, 4.30pm to 5.30pm at Horntye Park. This session has been created to remove barriers for children with disabilities or long-term conditions to participate in sports. Following the taster session, weekly sessions will be available from Tuesday 28 February.
The team at Active Hastings are also bringing UV sports to Hastings Academy, alongside Fitness Rave UK. Whether you want to play football, badminton, dodgeball or other team games, this session is not to be missed. UV Sports is played in the dark under UV lights and with glow in the dark equipment. UV sports will take place every Sunday from Sunday 8 January, for just £2 a session.
Or if gaming is more your thing, why not try the Multi-Ball Sports Wall, the ultimate interactive gaming and work out experience for children aged 8 to 16. Combing gaming and sports, the session includes a range of activities including, football penalty shootouts, darts, arcade style games and more! Just £2 a session at Summerfields Leisure Centre, every Monday from Monday 9 January, 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
Active Hastings have also teamed up with the local fitness provider CrossFit 1066 by offering a free after school course, which is being delivered in a local primary school.

An active lifestyle has many positive effects on children, not only is it a great way for children to develop their physical and mental wellbeing, but it also encourages teamwork and improves social skills."
Active Hastings is hosted by Hastings Borough Council, in partnership with East Sussex County Council, and brings together a wide range of local and national partners to ensure that everyone in Hastings can get active.
