Active Hastings launch a range of low-cost yoga classes
Published 28/04/2023
Active Hastings have launched a range of low-cost yoga classes, including yoga for lower back pain, chair based yoga and yoga for men's health. The classes have been created following feedback from the community, via the Active Hastings' GP Link Workers.
After the success of the yoga for lower back course, a weekly Yoga for Lower Back Pain Class has been created. The weekly class is led by Becca, from Straight Up Yoga, and runs every Monday (excluding bank holidays), 12.45pm to 1.45pm at Broomgrove Community Centre. Yoga is ideal for maintaining back strength and flexibility and is a successful intervention for reducing lower back pain. Becca is a qualified lower back instructor; and the classes aim to strengthen the lower back to reduce pain and discomfort in a safe environment. To book your place visit: eequ.org/experience/3221, the class costs £3 per session or is free for Broomgrove residents, with thanks to the Levelling Up Fund.
The team at Active Hastings are also excited to launch their new yoga for men's health class, which takes place every Thursday at Helenswood Sports Centre (7pm to 8pm). Murray, the class instructor, focuses on movement and flow, while developing flexibility and strength. Murray is a lifelong yoga practitioner who continues to find joy and progress through regular and consistent yoga practice. The class costs £3 and booking is essential: eequ.org/experience/3120
And finally in May, Chair based yoga will be making its way to West St Leonards Community Centre. The class will take place every Tuesday from 16 May, 11am to 12noon. The class has been created for people with decreased mobility, who want to increase their strength and mobility in a safe and relaxing environment. The weekly class will provide you with an introduction to chair-based yoga and is led by Karen from Yoga by the Sea. The class costs £3 and booking is essential: eequ.org/experience/3371
Councillor Andy Batsford, lead councillor for Health and Culture at Hastings Borough Council, said: "By offering a range of low-cost yoga classes, we hope this makes yoga more accessible to everyone. Yoga has so many health benefits, particularly for people with persistent lower back pain or decreased mobility, which can be a debilitating problem for so many people. By creating a range of specialised yoga classes, we hope it will give local people the opportunity to come together and improve their physical and mental wellbeing."
