Active Hastings comes to Broomgrove

With thanks to funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and following feedback from Broomgrove residents, the Active Hastings team have launched a jam-packed calendar of low-cost activities at the Broomgrove Community Centre in Hastings.
Heidi, the Active Hastings Adult Weight Management Specialist Instructor, kick starts the week with a free low impact and low intensity exercise class every Tuesday, 10am to 11am. The classes vary each week, and include low impact aerobics, weights, stretch, circuits and conditioning. The 'Creating a healthier you' class is for adults who are overweight and living with diabetes and/or high blood pressure. To book your free place visit: eequ.org/experience/4687
Following the Creating Health You exercise class the Active Hastings team will then deliver their free Age Friendly Activity and Social Session from 11am to 12.30pm. Participants are encouraged to pop along (no need to book), have a chat and enjoy unlimited free tea and coffee. While you're there, you can try various activities such as New-Age Kurling, Boccia, Archery, Badminton, Chair-Based Exercise and more! Sessions are fully inclusive and accessible, everyone is welcome.
Also on a Tuesday, you can join Sarah from Siam Boxing Camp, for a women's only Boxercise class from 1.45pm to 2.45pm. This is a non-contact cardio session, that is suitable for all abilities and fitness levels (must be 16+). £3 per session or free for Broomgrove residents. A free creche (for Broomgrove residents) has also been created alongside the class to enable parents to be active without having to worrying about childcare.
Or, if Pilates is more your thing, why not join Eugenie, from Active Hastings, for their weekly Pilates class? The family friendly class is suitable for all abilities, and everyone is welcome (must be 16+). The class takes place every Thursday, 10am to 11am. £3 or free for Broomgrove residents (a free creche is also available at this session for Broomgrove residents). And finally, for children aged 12 to 16, Sarah from Siam Boxing Camp also runs a free Junior Muay Thai class, every Thursday, 5pm to 6pm. Sarah encourages participants to focus on their own personal goals such as fitness, strength, stamina, confidence and self-esteem. Heather, Active Hastings Physical Activity Development Officer, said: "Following several consultations with the residents of Broomgrove, we are delighted to be offering a range of new activities at the community centre. And with Christmas just around the corner we will also be running several Christmas food and activity sessions taking place throughout the Christmas holidays and a fun Christmas Family Day, watch this space."
Councillor Andy Batsford, lead councillor for Health and Culture at Hastings Borough Council, said: "With thanks to the UK Prosperity Fund, we are very excited to bring new physical activity offerings to the residents of Broomgrove. Being physically active, not only has immense physical and wellbeing benefits, but it can also increase a sense of personal achievement, confidence and self-esteem."
Active Hastings received £107,544 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Active Hastings is hosted by Hastings Borough Council, in partnership with East Sussex County Council, and brings together a wide range of local and national partners to ensure that everyone in Hastings can get active.
