Published 21/09/2022
To celebrate Older People's Day, Active Hastings and Hastings Voluntary Action are holding two age friendly taster days. The Age Friendly Physical Activity Information and Taster Days give you the opportunity to find out what's happening near you, and to try out new activities for free.
So why not pop along for a coffee and a chat, or take part in some of the taster sessions on: Monday 3rd October, 10.30am to 1.30pm at Ore Community Centre or Wednesday 5th October, 12.30pm to 3.30pm at Four Courts Community Centre.
Councillor Andy Batsford, lead councillor for Health and Culture at Hastings Borough Council, said: "In December 2020, Hastings Borough Council passed a motion for Hastings to join the World Health Organisations Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities, as part of this work I am delighted we are launching our age friendly taster days. We are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to physical activities, regardless of their age, and that everyone stays active and connected."

Notes to editor:
Active Hastings
Active Hastings works closely with local providers of physical activity to give you easy, fun ways to get your everyday dose of physical activity. It only takes 30 minutes a day for adults and 60 a day for children to get fitter, healthier and happier. You can even break it down into 10 minute slots!
Active Hastings coordinates the local Community Physical Activity Network, which brings together schools, sport clubs, National Governing Bodies of Sport, health organisations, the voluntary sector and the private sector to work together, unblock barriers to participation and improve the local sport and physical activity delivery system.

Age Friendly
In December 2020 Hastings Borough Council passed a motion for Hastings to join the World Health Organisation Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities.
Age-friendly communities is a concept developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2006 with already over 800 members worldwide. In an Age-friendly community, services, local groups, businesses and residents all work together to identify and make the necessary changes in both the physical and social environment to both support and enable older people to lead healthy and active lives.
