Active Hastings launches new sport-based employability programme - Active Hastings Academy!
Published 16/12/2020
The Active Hastings Academy is a Connecting Hastings and Rother Together (CHART) Community led local development project part funded by the European Social Fund.
Traditional employability courses don't work for everyone, which is why Active Hastings Academy has been created to enable participants to learn the skills and get the qualifications they need to get a job, without having to spend hours in a classroom. Participants will be able to choose from a fitness, football or dance themed course.
These free courses are open to unemployed adults over the age of 18, who live in the CHART areas of Hastings.
The project aims to break down the barriers that people have to employability training by covering travel expenses, providing a creche, and even providing sports clothing.
Participants can expect to leave with nationally recognised qualifications, real work experience, a whole host of new skills required in the workplace and the confidence to move into further training or work.
Councillor Maya Evans, lead councillor for Natural Environment and Leisure, said,
"The Active Hastings Academy is a great new programme which offers a brilliant and innovative alternative to normal employability courses. Participants don't have to be fit or sporty or want a job in sport after the course is finished, they just have to want to move into work.
"If you're interested in the course but you're not quite sure, then you can always take part in a taster session before you commit to the full 8 week programme.
"The courses offer the chance to improve not only life and work skills, but fitness and wellbeing too - a win-win opportunity!"
