Council shows support for Srebrenica during memorial week

This year marks the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, in which more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were murdered in the worst atrocity on European soil since the Second World War, simply because of their religion. We pledge to remember the genocide and reaffirm our commitment to standing up against hatred and prejudice.

During Srebrenica Memorial Week (4 July - 11 July) we remember and honour those who were brutally murdered and come together to work towards building a more unified, stronger, and safer society free from hate, discrimination, and prejudice.

This year's theme "Rebuilding Lives" encourages us to think about the spirit of the survivors of Srebrenica who, despite the horrendous hatred and destruction they were subjected to, have been rebuilding their lives with dignity, humanity and without calling for revenge or promoting division or hatred.
