Changes to council services for Christmas

Hastings Borough Council will be closed from 12.30pm on Christmas Eve (Friday 24 December) until Tuesday 4 January 2022.
Waste and recycling collections will be one working day later than usual from Monday 27 December. You can find out your collection date online.
Garden waste and bulky waste collections will be suspended for two weeks from Monday 27 December. All collections will be back to normal from Monday 10 January.
While collection dates have changed, what can and can't be recycled has not changed.
The following can be recycled:- Envelopes
- Wrapping paper that passes the 'scrunch' test - if the paper doesn't spring back when you scrunch it, it can be recycled
- Christmas cards - remove any glitter, ribbon, and so on, plain card can be recycled
- Food and drinks cans
- Metal lids from glass bottles and jars
- Clean kitchen foil and foil food trays
- Plastic bottles (squash and put lids back on)
- Plastic food pots, tubs and trays
- Glass bottles (lids off please)
- Glass jars (lids off please)
- Lids
- Batteries and small electrical items must not be put in the bin. Please place small electrical items in a small carrier bag and place it on top of either your green or black bin on collection day.
Over the festive period there will also be changes to other services. Please check the council website for details of our Christmas and New Year opening hours. There will also be information on where you can get support through the Community Hub.
Cllr Kim Forward, Leader of the Council, said: "While we will be officially closed, there will still be lots of council staff working over the Christmas holidays, including at the Crematorium. I would encourage anyone who has any problems with council services to report these online during the break. You can access many services online through My Hastings."
