Cabinet is due to meet on Monday 9 June to discuss a range of reports.

The agenda will include feedback on the consultation about the anti-social behaviour Public Space Protection Order (ASB PSPO), the financial monitoring report, performance indicators and appointments to committees.

The finance report is the final update on the 2024-25 closing accounts. It shows that the increased spend on housing continues to be challenging, with a slower than expected reduction in the number of households living in privately sourced temporary accommodation. Several housing schemes are due to be completed and tenanted during this financial year so there should be a reduction in spend in the coming year. The focus continues to be on preventing homelessness. Since April 2024, we’ve prevented homelessness for 270 households, saving an estimated £1.5 million in potential costs for the council.

The council consulted on whether to renew the ASB PSPO earlier this year. Councillors will discuss the feedback on the consultation, with responses in favour of renewing the PSPO for a further three years. Comments were also in support of including Falaise Gardens and the Queens Road and Wallinger Walk area as restricted areas for the prohibition of drinking alcohol in public places.

Cllr Glenn Haffenden, leader of the council, said: “I am pleased that so many people responded to our ASB PSPO consultation, we will be discussing the comments and feedback and agreeing whether to renew the PSPO. While the financial report shows we still have work to do to continue balancing the budget, it is positive to see that the work being done by our housing team is having an impact in reducing our spend.

“We will also have time at the start of the meeting for residents' questions if there is something you want to ask a cabinet member.”

The meeting will start at 6pm on Monday 9 June at Muriel Matters House. There will be half an hour at the start of the meeting for public questions and will also be viewable online. You can read the full reports online.
