Weekly Summary from the Hastings Weather Service
Over the past week Hastings, in common with the rest of the UK and Europe, has experienced the second heatwave of the summer.
The week saw five days exceed the heatwave threshold temperature of 27°C and the maximum of 33.3°C on Thursday was the warmest June day since the previous record of 32.2°C (set in the summer of 1976). And when you compare the weekly average maximum of 28.8°C against the 30 year average figure of 18.8°C, it shows just how warm it has been. Thursday was the warmest day this year, indeed the warmest since August 2022.
Humidity stayed high and night time temperatures have risen steadily with that on Wednesday into Thursday not falling below 23.2 which exceeds the previous highest of 21.2°C set in June 2020.
Despite all the heat, 11.4mm of rain was recorded in the week provided by the overnight thunderstorms in the early hours of Tuesday and Saturday.
