In the UK the police are approachable and will try to help you.

Police Community Support Officers (PCSO)
In Hastings there are police community support officers (PCSO). The role of a PCSO is to reduce crime, fear and anti-social behaviour in the community.
They aim to provide a visible and reassuring presence in the neighbourhood. They like to build good relationships with schools, businesses and the community.Some of their main duties include:
- Dealing with minor crimes.
- Provide crime advice and support victims of crime.
- Handle missing person enquiries in Hastings.
Street Wardens
Hastings Borough Council employs street wardens. They wear a uniform. Their main duties include:
- Patrolling Hastings Borough Council car parks and where necessary issuing parking tickets.
- Issuing fixed penalty notices for litter/dog fouling.
- Investigating breaches of public space protection orders (PSPOs) such as dogs which need to be on leads in certain areas.
- Dealing with anti-social behaviour within delegated PSPO areas.
- Investigating fly tipping.
