Police

The police in the UK exist to work in partnership with communities and take pride in helping people. The police deal with preventing crime and protecting the public.

In the UK the police are approachable and will try to help you.

For emergency situations such as your life is in danger then ring 999.

For less urgent situations then ring 101

Police Community Support Officers (PCSO)

In Hastings there are police community support officers (PCSO). The role of a PCSO is to reduce crime, fear and anti-social behaviour in the community.
They aim to provide a visible and reassuring presence in the neighbourhood. They like to build good relationships with schools, businesses and the community.

Some of their main duties include:

• Dealing with minor crimes.
• Provide crime advice and support victims of crime.
• Handle missing person enquiries in Hastings.

Street Wardens

Hastings Borough Council employs street wardens. They wear a uniform. Their main duties include:

• Patrolling Hastings Borough Council car parks and where necessary issuing parking tickets.
• Issuing fixed penalty notices for litter/dog fouling.
• Investigating breaches of public space protection orders (PSPOs) such as dogs which need to be on leads in certain areas.
• Dealing with anti-social behaviour within delegated PSPO areas.
• Investigating fly tipping.
