I want to apply for or renew a private hire operator's licence
A licence is required to accept bookings for private hire vehicles. If you intend to operate from a premises which will be used as a booking office, planning permission will also be needed.
To apply for a private hire operator's licence you will need to fill out the online form below:
You will also need to provide us with:
- your certificate of public liability insurance
- a copy of your planning permission
- payment for the licence fee.
Applications will not be accepted without the above.

If these conditions are broken you risk losing your licence.
If you are working on a school contract for East Sussex County Council you are required to hold an operator's licence or work for someone who does hold such a licence.
1 vehicle: £99.00 (1yr), £428 (5yrs)
2 to 5 vehicles: £163.00 (1yr), £744 (5yrs)
6 to 10 vehicles: £213.00 (1yr), £1017 (5yrs)
11 to 15 vehicles: £325.00 (1yr), £1570 (5yrs)
16 to 20 vehicles: £433.00 (1yr), £2116 (5yrs)
21 to 30 vehicles: £650.00 (1yr), £3222 (5yrs)
31 to 40 vehicles: £867.00 (1yr), £4322 (5yrs)
41 to 50 vehicles: £1,084.00 (1yr), £5427 (5yrs)
51 to 60 vehicles: £1,301.00 (1yr), £6527 (5yrs)
61 to 70 vehicles: £1,517.00 (1yr), £7626 (5yrs)
71 to 80 vehicles: £1,733.00 (1yr), £8726 (5yrs)
81 and above: £2,166.00 (1yr), £10948 (5yrs)
