Pay online

You can pay your Council Tax online. Please note that you will need the account number listed on your bill.

Pay by Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay your Council Tax. You have a choice of collection dates: 1st, 15th or 23rd of the month and we can also allow you to pay over 12 monthly instalments (from April to March) to help you with budgeting.

Set up a Direct Debit

You can set up your own Direct Debit using our My Account New section.

Please note: if the bank account you are using needs more than one person to authorise debits to it, you will still need to print out the Direct Debit request form (.pdf 108KB)

Pay by phone

You can pay your Council Tax over the 'phone using a Visa Debit, UK Maestro, International Maestro, Solo or Electron card and major Credit Cards via our automated payment line 01424 451081.

To make a payment, you will need to have your Council Tax account reference number ready and know the amount you wish to pay.

Other ways to pay

Your Council Tax bill has a barcode on it which means you can use it to pay at any Post Office or Pay Point outlet free of charge. If you do choose to pay using the bill, you can still request 12 month instalments from April to March.

Pay at a Post Office

You can pay your Council Tax bill at a Post Office by cash or debit card.

Pay at a Pay Point Outlet

Pay Point outlets only accept cash and are usually newsagents or convenience stores. They display the Pay Point logo on their premises.

When you have made a payment at a Pay Point, keep the receipt and keep your bill safe - you will need it to make your next payment. If you lose the bill or have any queries about using it please contact us.

Your Council Tax bill shows the instalment amounts and the dates on which you should pay them.

Paying your Council Tax in full

Council Tax is usually paid in monthly instalments but you can pay the whole amount outstanding in one payment.

If you prefer to make one full payment, it should be made within 14 days of receiving the bill.

We are unable to offer a prompt payment discount.

You can also pay your annual bill 'half-yearly' in two instalments. If you choose to this payment option, the two payments must be made by 01 April and 01 September.
