Historic parks and gardens
The English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens in England was established in 1983 and identifies over 1,600 sites assessed to be of national importance.
The purpose of the Register is to promote certain sites of interest and to ensure that these sites are protected and valued for the future.
Parks and Gardens is one of 5 categories that can be considered for heritage protection. The full list is as follows:
- Listed buildings
- Scheduled monuments
- Registered parks and gardens
- Registered battlefields
- Historic wreck sites
