Hate crime in Hastings
Any incident, which may or may not constitute a criminal offence, which is perceived by the victim or any other person as being motivated by prejudice or hate constitutes a Hate Crime. This can be because of a person's:
- Disability
- Race or ethnicity
- Religion or belief
- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity
The Safer Hastings Partners work with the organisations who have the power and influence to stamp out hate crimes forever but to do that we need to know where they're happening, how they're happening and to whom. By reporting hate crimes, whether as a witness or a victim, you're helping to make our town a safer, better place.
To report a hate crime contact Sussex Police on 101 or visit True Vision or Stop Hate.
In an emergency always dial 999.
Sussex Police have an online hate crime reporting page.
Find out more from Citizens Advice on the differences between an incident and a crime.
Community safety partners also provide funding for 'Safe From Harm' a scheme that provides special support to victims of antisocial behaviour and hate crime - telephone 01424 858343.
For incidents relating to sexuality or gender identity you may also find it helpful to contact Hastings and Rother Rainbow Alliance - telephone 07593 444677, email: info@hrra.org.uk
If you need support or advice around sexuality or gender identity, the following groups may be able to help.
