The Woodland Walk
A natural copse lies between the upper and lower sections of the cemetery grounds. There is a central path between the woodland plants and flowers. Crematorium memorial grounds rules
The following conditions apply to the display of memorial plaques:
Maintenance of plaques, including replacement, remains the responsibility of the applicant.
Nothing, including plants and flowers, may be placed into any part of lawns or rose beds of the Garden of Remembrance or Garden of Rest.
Any unauthorised items placed in the Crematorium grounds may be removed without notice by the Manager.
Plaque dedication will be limited to a period of ten years, although the option to rededicate for a further period can be applied for on expiry.
To enable the Crematorium Office to keep records up to date, applicants should inform them of any change of address.
It must be noted that no obligation is placed upon the Council to inform the applicant when the dedication period expires.
It is important to note that all rights in, and ownership of, shrubs and trees remain vested in Hastings Borough Council and that the applicant may only purchase the right to display a memorial plaque at a tree or shrub designated for that purpose by the Manager.
No cremated remains may be scattered or interred and no memorial may be placed in the Cemetery or Crematorium grounds without the prior permission of the Manager.
Where permission has been given for cremated remains to be strewn [buried] at a particular place within the Cemetery or Crematorium grounds it does not confer any rights or privileges. For example no memorial, plants or vases may be placed there.
The burial of cremated remains in an urn, casket or other container is not permitted within the Garden of Remembrance or Crematorium grounds, only in a cremated remains plot or family grave to which the Right of Burial has been purchased.
It should be clearly understood that trees and shrubs are, in all cases re-allocated. That is to say they are not newly planted for each application for a memorial plaque. New trees and shrubs will only be planted where the Manager deems it necessary, as they remain the property of the Council.
