Active Hastings Session Etiquette
At Active Hastings, we are committed to creating sessions that are safe, inclusive, supportive, and enjoyable for everyone. To help us achieve this, we ask all participants to follow these guidelines:
1. Be Respectful and Kind
Treat fellow participants, coaches, volunteers, and staff with kindness and courtesy at all times. Remember that you may not know what someone else is going through outside of the session — choose respect, empathy and patience.
2. Make Everyone Feel Welcome
Actively welcome new participants. A friendly introduction, a smile, or simple encouragement can make a big difference to someone attending for the first time.
3. Support, Don’t Judge
Everyone’s journey into physical activity is different. Be understanding of the barriers others may face and never put anyone down. Encourage progress at all levels and celebrate effort as much as achievement.
4. Be an Active Bystander
If you witness inappropriate behaviour, divisive comments, or anything that goes against our inclusive values, challenge it respectfully where appropriate. If you do not feel comfortable addressing it yourself, please report it to a member of staff. We all share responsibility for maintaining a positive and welcoming environment.
5. Arrive Prepared and On Time
Please arrive a few minutes early and bring any required equipment, water, and appropriate clothing or footwear. Arriving on time is important because missing the warm-up increases the risk of injury and makes it harder to fully participate in the session. If you are not sure what to bring or wear, do feel free to contact us.
6. Listen to Coaches and Staff
Follow instructions from session leaders to help keep activities safe and running smoothly.
7. Prioritise Safety
Take part at a level that suits your ability. Inform the coach of any injuries, health concerns, or accessibility needs before the session begins.
8. Respect Equipment and Facilities
Look after the venue and equipment provided. Report any damage or concerns to a member of staff.
9. Switch Off and Be Present
Keep mobile phone use to a minimum during sessions. These sessions are a valuable opportunity to switch off from daily pressures, be present in the moment, and fully engage with the activity and the people around you.
10. Enjoy Yourself
Active Hastings is about moving more, building confidence, connecting with others, and having fun.
