March Cabinet meeting
Published 20/02/2026

The council’s Cabinet will be meeting on Monday 2 March to discuss a range of reports.
The agenda will include an update on the Town Deal project at the Hastings Castle and West Hill Café site.
The West Hill Café update includes details of funding for repairs to the walls and motor room roof structure of the West Hill Lift Engine Room, and works to Hastings Castle. The report also includes information about the disposal of a small piece of land to allow the development of the visitors’ centre, and work that is being progressed to designate Castle Hill as a local nature reserve.
Cllr Julia Hilton, deputy leader of Hastings Borough Council and lead councillor for shaping place and local government reorganisation, said: “The West Hill Café and Castle project is the flagship project of the Town Deal programme, and I’m pleased to see that progress is being made with the development of the café site. Investment in the West Hill Lift will complement the improved visitor offer and give visitors a unique way to visit the site.
“Designating Castle Hill as a local nature reserve was listed as one of the priority actions in our Corporate Plan, to protect the area for the future. There will be no cost to do this – the existing management and maintenance programme will continue.”
Cabinet will also discuss updating the Gambling Statement of Principles following a consultation, a report asking for approval to accept government funding for housing, the regular financial monitoring reports and gas and electricity contracts.
You can watch the meeting online, or in person at Muriel Matters House from 6pm. The full reports are available to read. The meeting will start with half an hour for public questions to Cabinet members.
